Sheraton at Our Lucaya Beach and Golf Resort
We visited from 10/3 to 10/5. Check in took forever and they have no since of urgency when it comes to customer service. We would call the service desk and it took them forever to respond. And sometimes we would have to call them back to find out what was going on. Also, we were charged 15.00 per night for housekeeping service. Shouldn't this be included in the hotel rate?
Just got back from a 4 day trip to the Sheraton at Our Lucaya and we had my wife and we had an absoulutely wonderful trip. We had a standard room but were pleasantly surprised to have a view of the ocean. The pools were all great, especially the infinity pool at the Westin that has a pool bar that you can sit in the pool and enjoy. The service at the resort was great but the restaraunts are VERY! expensive. It is better to walk across the street to the Port Lucaya Marketplace, there are dozens of restaraunts with outdoor seating and reasonably priced too. Just watch to see if the gratuity is included. Bring and use your sunscreen! I grew up on the Gulf Coast and this was the most intense sun I have encountered. The water sports at the resort are great, we rode the banana boat and the waverunners. Be prepared thought you cannot charge these to your room - cash or credit card only. This was our first trip to the Bahamas and we would recommed this to anyone. It is a great value for your money but it has an expensive feel to it. The best thing about being in the islands was the chance to meet and visit with other people. Met a wonderful couple and even went out to dinner with them. We found the entire resort to be VERY family friendly with lots of activities for children and teens alike.
I arrived at the Sheraton at 2:00 p.m. after being "hijacked" by a cabbie that charged $5 per person one way. After waiting over an hour on line with two small children, we were given a key at 3:05 p.m. The room itself was more than I expected. Friends had conditioned me to expect less. I loved the decor and was very impressed. We headed for the beach which was also beautiful. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. The employee at the towel bar made me feel he was doing a great favor in lending us towels and the employee at the beach took over an hour to finally bring over the lounge chairs. Unfortunately, the lounge chair was a point of contention for the five days of our stay. The pool area was nice. My boys really enjoyed it. No problems there. Eating and drinking though were another story. I suppose they know all to well that the patrons are at their mercy. Drinks at the Sugar Mill (one coke and one frozen drink) with the 15% tip where never less than 10.89. I grant that at least the drinks were strong, but I feel that they are taking advantage of their patrons. Burgers and hotdogs there were $7-$9. This is outrageous for kids who never finish their food. Baracudas was aweful. The cups were not properly cleaned and it was obvious even to the children. No assistance was provided by any of the waitresses when they saw me struggling with the two boys dishes. The restaurants across the street were not much better. Everyone made you feel like you were bothering them. Many of the waitresses did not even bother to look at us while they took our order. HOW RUDE!!!!! Their patience (total slowness) was terrible. Lunch should not take an hour and forty-five minutes (this wait was at the table). One night the power went out for over two hours. Could you imagine an island of people on vacation (no kitchens) hungry at dinner time with no where to go eat! Apparently this is common and not a freak incident. I recommend everyone buy snacks when you arrive for times like these. I made the mistake of booking a snorkel cruise at the hotel. The weather did not cooperate for two days and I changed my mind about taking the trip with the boys. The women who originally booked me and took my deposit made me make several trips over two days before I finally got my money back. We did figure out the public bus system ($1 per person each way) that has a stop in front of the hotel could give us a ride to the International Bazarre where there is a McDonalds and a Burger King. That was the only sight seeing we were able to do, since the expense of eating and the outrageous cab fares did not allow us to do any other exploring. The last thing to happen was really the icing on the cake. We had to check out at 11 a.m. the day we were leaving. We didn't have to be at the dock until 3 p.m. The concierge had said they would provide the necessary toiletries for showers so we could enjoy the beach a couple more hours. They never delivered the necessary items. In conclusion, if you have the money to spend, perhaps the bahamas is the place for you. However, there are many beaches in Florida that have nothing to envy. The people of the bahamas were rude and uninviting. They take advantage of their tourist instead of pampering them to assure their return. As for me, I will not return and I recommend you explore better options. |
