Small resort on yacht harbor less than 2 miles from beach

This 63-unit resort on a small yacht harbor offers suites, apartments, and townhouses with cooking facilities and casual living. Guest accommodations include patios or balconies facing the yacht harbor. Ceiling fans and air conditioning furnish cooling. Two pools surrounded by sundecks provide swimming and sunbathing pleasure. Location

Grand Bahama (Freeport)
Sprawling little Freeport on Grand Bahama is home to about half the island's 50,000 people. Although it has no beach, Freeport makes up for it with its cruise port, resorts, and shopping. Nearby Lucaya, with its pleasant beach, has developed as a complimentary resort community to Freeport.

General information

What to expect: Designed for long-term stays, the resort attracts couples and families who don't mind being away from a beach, enjoy home-away-from home living with cooking facilities, and value rest and relaxation. The resort provides complimentary shuttle service three times weekly to a supermarket and twice weekly to a beach 1.5 miles away.

Amenity highlights: Although not located on a beach, the resort includes two pools next to the yacht harbor, each with an adjacent bar/restaurant. A large pool located next to the building housing suites features a swim-up bar and a section with a tile-top table rising above the water that provides in-water socializing for group of eight. On the sundeck surrounding the pool, a raised area contains a 12-person spa. A medium-size pool and expansive sundeck offers swimming and sunbathing in the townhouse/apartment section.

Insider tip: One of two golf courses at Our Lucaya Resort lies approximately 2 blocks away.

Property amenities

The resort provides complimentary shuttle service three times weekly to a supermarket and twice weekly to a beach 1.5 miles away. A fitness center contains a universal gym and cardio machines. Laundry facilities are on the premises.

Caribbean Sunset Bar - Casual, open-air spot adjacent to suites building. Open in evening. Swim-up bar. Seating on expansive patio and under veranda roof draped with marine artifacts. Dinner menu of steak, chicken, fish, burgers, hot dogs, snacks.

Recreation

Powerboats, bicycles, and scuba diving and snorkeling gear can be rented at the resort. Play on a hard-surface tennis court is complimentary. The recreational activities listed below are available at or near the resort; fees may apply

Rooms

The resort offers 63 apartments, suites, and townhouses in two sections arrayed around a yacht harbor. Each apartment, suite, or townhouse faces the yacht harbor and includes either a grand-floor patio or upper-floor balcony. Ceiling fans and air-conditioning provide cooling alternatives. Housekeeping service is available on request.

Note: Apartments and townhouses are being renovated through 2004. Changes consist of removal of carpets, new kitchen appliances and countertops, new bathrooms, new fabrics, and installation of built-in six-chair tile-top dining tables. Descriptions that follow are of non-renovated apartments and townhouses. Guests will be assigned a renovated unit if it is available at check-in. (Suites are located in a newer building and feature contemporary decor and furnishings.)
