Green Turtle Club & Marina

Elegant, Relaxing, Other-Worldly
Reviewer: carol.tatosian@attbi.com, Stow, MA

Well, my husband and I were looking for excellent bonefishing, adventurous locations, and beaches. We found it all and more in the Green Turlte Cay in the Abacos island group in the Bahamas. Not incredibly easy to get to, but incredibly easy to ease into. Flying from any location US to Miami, then to Abaco's Treasure Cay, then a picturesque ferry over the Sea of Abaco to Green Turtle Cay starts your vacation off on the right foot. GTC is a thoroughly British resort. Resort because it's rates usually include a full breakfast and a really first-rate dinner with a very nice accommodation (pool, truly unique cocktail lounge, etc.), and British because the cocktail time before dinner is filled with people dressed in "yacht-casual" attire. In fact, you'll see a great many people there for dinner straight off their yachts which are anchored in GTC's marina. The people, who are all really ready to enjoy themselves, and their yachts, add a dash of elegance to the ambience of this unique establishment. GTC, being a pretty small cay, is best enjoyed when you can rent a boat to venture out to the other cays nearby. Believe me when I say that a boat larger than 19' is a real plus if you plan on venturing any further than the next cay over.

The next cay over is the beautiful deserted Manjack Cay, with its beautiful beach and wildlife sanctuary leading over to the wild ocean side beaches. But, take your boat further north than that, say to Bonefish or Walker Cay, and you are in for a real adventure. Unexpected 4' waves can easily swamp a boat smaller than 19' or 21'. If your boat is seaworthy, though, it's a true adventure. The same is true of venturing south from GTC and any further south than Whale Cay. But between GTC and Whale Cay, there is the most unbelievable beauty to be seen in the Sea of Abaco. The day we took our 21' boat cruising from GTC to Treasure Cay, was right after a 3-day blow. the Sea of Abaco was like a sheet of glass, and the area around a huge rock called "Don't Rock" was fitself was the most incredible color of turquoise we had ever seen ... in fact the whole sea glowed! We couldn't help but anchor just to watch the fish, and cast a line over to see what we could catch. It was then that a pod (group?) of porpoise breached beside our small boat. Unbelievable. But back to GTC. Food, drink, really cool pool with poolside bar ... Fabulous. The staff are ready to help you have a good time. Rent a golf cart for an up-close-and-personal view of the island, and a fun drive into the only little center on the island; New Plymouth. Find someone to take you out by boat to the outer reef for some great reef fishing and even greater snorkeling. But you can snorkel at the inner reef via a strong swim from the ocean side of the island. Marvelously pristine reefs await you.Anyway, you'll thoroughly enjoy Green Turtle Cay. And if you go, let me know your thoughts.Enjoy!

We loved the Green Turtle Club

We stayed at the Green Turtle Club and had a wonderful vacation. The rooms were spacious and very elegant and the restaurant was excellent with a gourmet menu that changed nightly. The staff were very attentive and Debbie the bartender was amazing. The town of New Plymouth was pristine and charming and everyone was so friendly. We will be going back next year.
