Dillet's Guest HouseHotel Overview
Location
Dunmore Avenue And Strachan Street Property amenitiesBuilt in 1928 and converted to an inn in 1990, the two-story, cream-colored concrete guest house is run by various Dillets who offer Bahamian cooking lessons. Royal palms, ginger, and halyconia adorn the home's lush acre that includes a studio for a family artist and a courtyard pool and gazebo. Fresh flowers and colorful exotic birds adorn the common area with its wood-burning fireplace, Internet station, and pay telephone.
Policies There are no room charges for two children age 4 and younger occupying the same room as adults.
DiningA tropical Bahamian breakfast and afternoon tea , included in the rate and often taken on the verandah, is a family production, as are dinners that are available on request. Various aunts and cousins create freshly baked bread, Johnny cake, pepper jam, and concoctions from the garden's bounty such as mango tart and coconut cream pie. Proprietor Iris Dillet, working in what was her mother Olga's kitchen, makes a legendary chocolate cake that is popular in local restaurants. Nearby restaurants: RecreationBesides lying in hammocks, swimming, and renting bicycles, Dillet's guests can walk 10 minutes to see cricket matches or the Ardastra Zoo's flamingos. Downtown Nassau's markets and businesses are a 20-minute walk. A bus or car is the easiest way to reach beaches, where guests can snorkel, scuba dive, or swim in the warm, clear waters. The activities listed below are available either at or near the guest house; fees may apply.
Rooms![]() Dillet's offers seven large tropical guestrooms whose names and driftwood door art honor an island fruit: jujube, guava, papaya, mango, tamarind, soursop, and sapodilla. All feature white walls and bamboo-and-wicker furniture, the latter freshly painted sage in spring 2003. Much of the artwork was created by a family member, a renowned Bahamian artist whose studio is in a cottage in the garden. Five rooms include kitchenettes. Small baths offer showers, and some have tubs. All rooms are non-smoking and do not include phones.
