Coral Sands Hotel
As the family from Houston, we had a terrible experience at Coral Sands. The hotel misrepresents the quality of lodging on their website - unless you stay in the apartments, you will be lodged in dirty, shabby, dingy rooms with leaky A/C, worse than most motels. The staff is indifferent at the best, there are certainly no sailboats on offer, the public buildings, like most of the rooms are in a state of disrepair and the bar refused to make frozen drinks! We learned that the hotel is in the process of being sold and is obviously being starved of any investment - unfortunately the promotional materials do not mention that. Luckily, we were there out of season and were able to move out to a better place after just one night - even that was one too many. Terrible place!
My husband and I took our 3 children to Coral Sands for Spring Break last week. We always research hotels before making our decision about where to stay. Coral Sands has a pretty good website with a picture of a fairly nice looking room. Imagine our surprise and disappointment when we entered our room! The linens were old and ratty, the carpet old and filthy, the bathroom old and full of ants. We should have realized that the ants were there to stay as there was a can of insect repellent in the cabinet under the sink...not exactly the most reassuring item to find in your hotel room. We then decided that perhaps the food and personnel of the hotel would make up for the poor accomodations...not the case. The staff, for the most part, was rude and slow to respond to any requests. The food at the beach bar/restaurant was so-so though they ran out of cheese on a Saturday and never had any for at least 4 days. We felt like it was an imposition to order anything and when we did it took a very long time to get the food or drinks. Our one dinner at the Poisideon was the worst meal we ate the entire time we were at Harbour Island. Finally, after 4 nights, we were lucky to find 2 adjoining rooms at Romora Bay Club. What a find that was for us and our children! We felt like we had started a whole new trip for almost the same price with incredibly better rooms, friendly staff, wonderful food, extensive wine list and prompt service. I have never been happier to leave a hotel than I was when we checked out 2 days early from the Coral Sands. We since have met several families who have had similar experiences there. I hope that should another family decide to visit Harbour Island, that they will stay anywhere but the Coral Sands!
I just got back from a Bahamian wedding and honeymoon and could not have dreamed of a better experience. We had 80 friends and family join us for a week of celebration culminating in a sat afternoon wedding at the "point" on coral sands. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience, and Coral Sands made it all happen flawlessly. The property is beautiful (the beach has colors only seen in paintings), the accomodations comfortable (and wide ranging, some friends stayed in garden rooms at 160, others in new suites/apts), the island fun, and the Coral Sands staff so helpful. I could go on for pages, but emial if you want specifics. Nonetheless, I recommend Coral Sands to anyone and everyone. |
