Compass Point HotelHotel OverviewBoutique resort with sandy coves and stylish cottages
Location Paradise Island (Bahamas)
West Bay Street General information![]() What to expect: Compass Point is one of several boutique resorts developed by Chris Blackwell of Island Records. The clientele is mostly romantic couples, with occasional celebrities and families. Designed by Biba-clothing founder Barbara Hulanicki, the resort buildings are terraced on a 1.5-acre hillside and painted in the rainbow of bright colors characterizing the Bahamas' annual Junkanoo festival. Amenity highlights: Large rocks and small, sandy cove beaches, one 75 feet long and the other 25 feet, flank the hotel's dock, which extends over turquoise Atlantic waters. To the west and accessible by a 50-yard walkway, uncrowded Love Beach curves 1.5 miles around a point. Situated behind a whitewashed stone wall 10 feet above the ocean, the hotel's swimming pool has a shallow children's section and a deck with cushioned lounge chairs. Insider tip: A thatched shelter on the end of the hotel's 100-foot dock provides a tranquil spot for enjoying sunsets, contemplating the ocean, and watching stars at night. Property amenitiesFlowering gardens, thick hedges, and palm trees surround the resort's cottages and cabanas, which are painted in vivid tropical colors. Guests seeking sand and turquoise waters can bask in Compass Point's own small coves or head to neighboring Love Beach, popular with snorkelers. The resort also has an oceanfront restaurant and bar and a freshwater pool. Compass Point Studios, a legendary recording facility, is next door.
Policies Room rates are subject to a mandatory Bahamian government tax.
Dining![]() Compass Point Restaurant & Bar - The Compass Point serves three meals a day in its air-conditioned dining room and on an open-air veranda overlooking the ocean. The dining room is casually elegant, with white table linens and stained-glass sconces complemented by ceiling fans, tropically colored wooden tables, and a marble bar. The restaurant is lit by candles and tiki torches after dark. The breakfast menu features American-style dishes such as eggs, French toast, pancakes, and fresh fruit. Lunch choices include soups, conch salad, pizza, pasta, seafood wraps, burgers, and specialties such as grilled lobster and jerk chicken. For dinner, guests may choose dishes such as gnocchi, crab sushi rolls, beef carpaccio, stone-crab claws, rack of lamb, and steak. Recreation![]() The hotel loans snorkeling and kayaking equipment to guests who wish to explore the nearby ocean waters. Staff can assist with arranging other water sports activities. A dive shop 10 miles away offers snorkeling and scuba-diving excursions. The dive shop also provides complimentary shuttle service to the hotel's guests. The recreational activities listed below are available near the hotel; fees may apply.
Rooms![]() The resort offers 18 wood cabanas, huts, and cottages terraced into a hillside above the ocean and painted in the bright colors featured in the annual Bahamian winter-holiday Junkanoo festival. All rooms include ocean-view porches or balconies with rocking chairs and picnic tables. Inside, rooms feature platform beds, Bahamian-pine floors, and peaked wood ceilings. Louvered windows and ceiling fans provide cooling alternatives to air conditioning. Guestroom amenities include wet bars, refrigerator/minibars, coffeemakers, and toasters. Rooms have televisions with U.S. cable channels and CD players with complimentary music libraries. VCRs are available on request, and video movies can be rented at the front desk. Guests write comments in each unit's memory book. Room amenities
